Coldness…

A Winter’s Walk

A brisk walk, alone and fast,
Cold wind, whipping my face and clearing my head
Thinking that somehow walking faster might make it less painful.

Brings me full circle, right back to where I began
Cheeks flushed and red, my heart pounding reminds me I’m alive
Sucking in the crisp air, it makes my lungs hurt

And it all feels so very good.

I forgot how much I love to walk in the Winter. Or, more accurately, how much I love to walk ALONE in the Winter. That is a luxury I don’t often have.

I remember how I used to think the mountains looked so sad during Winter, they didn’t have their normal majestic beauty. Now I realize that they of course need a break too (!) to restore themselves, to come back in full Glory. Appreciation anew for the process of Life.

In the Winter, I get to see much more of them as I walk through my neighborhood, bare branches let you play peek-a-boo, I watch the interplay of light and shadows. It is truly beautiful.

My plans for taking Lil’ Boo to the storytime this morning has been cancelled, since she’s coughing and has a boogie nose. Again. Momma is dosing herself up on lots of vitamins and wondering how much Vitamin C she can actually take. I really need to go out and get some zinc lozenges…stat.

I had D take a couple new pics of the Astarael headband the other day, this one is my fave.

I had been hoping to be in the rockabilly club (bc I’m really just a wanna-be), but as Caitlin pointed out me, I need to ditch my black & grays for some more bright accessories. (I think bright hair doesn’t count.) I was actually going more for the ‘Billy Idol’s Evil Twin‘ look w/the blonde, but it seems my head had another idea. This crazy color will be a one trick pony for sure, bleach is way too painful on my sensitive little head.

I hope you’re not getting tired of seeing Grisaille yet!

I finally finished up my little Tulips bag, and today should finish up the pattern for you. The handles were giving me fits, and with some re-figuring, I think they look much better now.

The day I don’t have the problem of small feet appearing in my pics will be a sad day!

I enjoyed making these flowers so much that I think I’m also going to make a short-sleeved sweater with them. Because you can never have too many tulips.

This past week I was also fortunate enough to be able to see live music twice. The first time was at one of my fave local haunts, Highland Brewing Company. I had a last minute invite from friends and realized I haven’t been there since the middle of September! Overdue for a visit. They always have bands play on Friday & Saturday nights. First I had to get some Devil’s Britches, a seasonal IPA (oh yeah baby!).

Then I had to go up and dance to Circus Mutt.

These guys were a lot of fun, a folksy/bluegrass type of band. Here’s some of their music: Circus Mutt on Reverbnation. I think Mia was flirting with one of the guitarists.

Mia *almost* got herself into the cornhole…

Then on Monday, I went to a benefit concert with my friend at the White Horse in Black Mountain, NC – there were several good acts there. My favorite was this local guy named Jimmy Landry (see video below), this song pretty much brought the whole audience to tears. (Though obviously much better in person, and he was alone in the performance I saw.)

Thanks for reading, be well friends.

I love everything about this post: the poem, the imagery, the narrative…I often wish we lived closer to each other so we can have an actual sit down, knit and chat day. I’m sure we’ll never run out of things to talk about.

Thanks Jocelyn, I know we would have a blast together! If you ever make it this way you better let me know. We still have to do the Skype thing…
